Voters in a dozen Metro East communities vote next Tuesday on possibly lowering their electric bills.

Many Illinois voters will decide whether to allow their towns to purchase electricity from someone other than Ameren Illinois. Ameren Illinois is in favor of it because they don't generate power, they deliver it.

Consumers would still pay electric bills to Ameren, but the electricity itself would be purchased on the open market.
