Web World: Watson Tackles New Jobs

You might remember “Watson” the IBM computer that took on the Jeopardy champions and won.

Watson was always intended for greater purposes in the work force and has now started on those endeavors.  IBM has contracted Watson to Citigroup for use in the financial services industry, although spokespeople say Watson will not be choosing stocks.

The other use, which was always on Watson’s frontier, is helping with medical diagnoses. Watson has begun working with medical groups on cancer.

IBM hopes to eventually farm out Watson as a cloud service for businesses to tap into on a regular basis.
