SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE (KTVI)– A man is in police custody for allegedly abusing his 12-year old stepson at Scott Air Force Base.

Police are calling the abuse “torture.”

James Jennings was charged Friday evening with aggravated battery.

Scott Elementary School called the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department Wednesday when the boy came to school with bruises all over his back, arms and legs.

Police say the boy’s stepfather returned to their home on Scott Air Force Base late Tuesday night and found cookie crumbs on the kitchen floor.

Police say since Jennings had instructed the boy not to leave his room, he pulled him out of bed, then forced him to do more than 700 pushups and eat the crumbs off the kitchen floor while he repeatedly punched the boy in the arms legs and face.

The boy has been released from the hospital and placed in foster care.

The mother, who was on active duty in Florida, was flown into a local airport and has since been questioned and taken into police custody as well.

The investigation on the mother is ongoing.
