ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)– A 21 year old Imperial man has been charged in connection with a hit and run that killed a AAA of Missouri tow truck driver on Interstate 70 Monday night. Aaron Bogue is facing charges of leaving the scene of an injury accident, but the investigation could yield more charges.
The crash happened about 9:20 Monday night. The tow driver, David Bense, Sr. was putting out flares after stopping to assist a couple whose car had broken down at 70 and O’Fallon.
Police say Bogue’s car hit Bense, killing him. But Bogue allegedly sped off. He was caught minutes later after a good Samaritan who saw the crash followed him and called police.
Bense’s sister in law, Linda Bosslet, says the news was devastating for the entire family.
““I’m just in shock. I just can’t believe he’s gone. It’s just sad,” she said. “To learn that a loved one dies is bad enough but when they die under those circumstances it’s even worse.”
A cousin of Bense’s who also works for AAA was dispatched to help another driver. It was only when he arrived on the scene that he realized it was a loved one.
AAA officials say it’s the first time they’ve lost a driver this way in all the years they’ve been helping motorists in St. Louis.
