BELLEVILLE, IL (KTVI)-- It's a craze catching on across the country called "cash mobs." The idea behind them is to help keep money within the local economy.

Cash mobs are similar to flash mobs, only in place of dozens of people spontaneously dancing, dozens of shop hungry customers converge on a local store with one goal in mind, spending money that is certain to remain local.

It was just a quiet Friday afternoon around closing time at Candid Gifts in Belleville, a small store whose mission is to keep money within the local economy.

That quiet turned out to be the calm before the storm. That's because moments before the rush, more than 50 shoppers gathered across the street with $20 bills in hand, preparing to cash mob candid gifts.

Juggling.com, based out of Swansea, organized the cash mob as part of a fun concept that helps local businesses thrive.

Flooded with spend happy customers, the owners of Candid Gifts were humbled by the support from not only this cash mob, but also the continued support they receive from the Belleville area.

It was only appropriate that a store with locally based product was targeted by this cash mob because that is the whole point of an event like this, keeping local money around home not only today, but in the future as well.

With over 50 shoppers inside candid gifts spending the minimum of $20, it's safe to say the store had a pretty darn good night, profit-wise.
