ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - Two people are seriously hurt after the car they were in wound up on Metrolink tracks in West St. Louis and was hit by a train.
It happened around 1:15 a.m. Tuesday after a car crashed through a fence and ended up on the tracks. Authorities say for some reason the red Pontiac first drove through a private lot then crashed through the fence near Rosedale and Skinker.
A short time later, a Metrolink train t-boned the car on the passenger's side. A man and woman in their early 20s were in the car. They were both taken to an area hospital where they are in serious but stable condition. They are expected to survive.
There were several people on the train. They were checked out at the scene but police say none of them were transported.
It is unclear what prompted the driver of the car to crash through the fence and onto the tracks. The tracks were reopened for the morning commute.
