GENEVA (AP) -Swiss chemicals maker Syngenta says it is offering $105 million to settle a U.S. lawsuit over one of its herbicides entering water supplies. Syngenta says it is waiting for the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois to approve a settlement agreed with plaintiffs. The eight-year-old case was brought by community water systems who wanted Syngenta to pay for the weed killer atrazine to be filtered from their supplies. Syngenta says it settled “in order to end the business uncertainty” and avoid further legal costs. The company said in a statement Friday that atrazine is used in over 60 countries and meets the strict safety requirements. Syngenta shares rose 0.4 percent to 307.10 Swiss francs ($321.13) in early trading on the Zurich exchange Friday.
