GODFREY, Ill. (AP) _ A southwestern Illinois woman is on the mend after being mauled by a pit bull during an attack that required her to get more than 120 stitches.

The (Alton) Telegraph (http://bit.ly/Kt8dHR ) reports that 19-year-old Saint Louis University student Mallorie Vest was jogging May 23 when the attack happened in her hometown of Godfrey.

The newspaper says a female pit bull attacked Vest’s thigh while the dog was being walked on a leash by her owner. The tussle also left Vest with a broken finger and pulled muscles.

Madison County animal-control officials placed the dog in 10-day confinement in Edwardsville at the request of Vest’s mother and an administrator’s order.

Vest’s mother says her daughter probably will need reconstructive surgery and physical therapy.
