140 Pigs Saved From Overnight Barn Fire

COLUMBIA, IL (KTVI) – A barn filled with hundreds of pigs caught fire at around midnight early on Wednesday.  The farm is located at B Road bottoms in rural Columbia and belongs to Glenn Stumpf.  Glenn, his son Jake, employees and firefighters from Columbia, Valmeyer, Maeystown and Waterloo helped to battle the blaze.  They managed to snuff out the fire and save most of the sows.

Around 140 pigs were saved; ten pigs died in the barn fire.  The exact condition of the pigs who were saved is still being examined.  Some of the sows suffered smoke inhilation and burns in the fire.   Some of the pigs may need to be put down due to injuries suffered in the fire.  The farm’s owner, Glenn Stumpf is determining what the damage may mean to his agricultural operation.  

The cause of the fire is still unknown.
