Freese Leads Cards Past Sox 5-3
(KTVI) – Carlos Beltran was on the bench. Minus their top hitter who would deliver the big hits for the Cardinals? That was the question. The answer turned out to be David Freese as the Cardinals beat the Chicago White Sox 5-3. Freese drove in three runs giving him 43 on the season. His big night included a 2-run homer. His 13th of the season.
Jake Westbrook worked six innings and the bullpen worked the rest. The Cards much-maligned bullpen has calmed a bit allowing for a series win over the Sox. Jason Motte picked up the save for the second straight night. The Cardinals will continue interleague play, as the Kansas City Royals come to town for the weekend.
