The Tigers scored four early runs on Cardinals starting pitcher Lance Lynn and beat St. Louis, 6-3 on Tuesday night in Detroit. The Tigers scored on an RBI single from Delmon Young in the first inning for a 1-0 lead. Detroit then got three 2nd inning runs off Lynn to build an early the 4-0 lead. An Austin Jackson two run double keyed the Tigers second inning burst.

For the Cardinals, facing reigning AL Cy Young winner Justin Verlander was not treat. They managed a run on a Matt Holliday gound out and scored two runs when Tigers left fielder Quintin Berry dropped Carlos Beltran;s fly ball. The Cards had a chance in the 7th inning with the bases loaded, but Verlander struck out Allen Craig to end the threat.

Verlander got the win with seven innings of solid pitching. Lynn took the loss, allowing five runs in five innings. The loss drops the Cardinals record to .500 at 34-34. The only good news, the Indians beat the Reds 3-2 in 10 innings, so the Redbirds trail first place Cincinnati by 4 and a half games.
