ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – If you are heading to the ballpark this week for any of the Cardinals games, there’s a new menu item at Busch Stadium that’s sure to grab some attention. The Cardinals are introducing the “Giant Slugger” hot dog for all July home games to help celebrate National Hot Dog Month. The Giant Slugger weighs in at 2.75 pounds and is two feet long. The Cardinals say at $26 each it’s a good bargain, because it could easily feed a family of four.
The toppings on the standard Slugger included two full cups of chili, nacho cheese, grilled onions and jalapeno peppers. The Cards will formally introduce fans to the new dog with a hot dog eating contest in the Ford Plaza area of Busch Stadium at 5pm on Wednesday, July 4.
Local baker Fazios was asked to bake a special bun for the Giant Slugger. The first hot dog may have originated in St Louis and the name “hot dog” traces to the 1904 World’s Fair here in St Louis.
