Beltran advances to 2nd Round, but Fielder wins Home Run Derby
The Cardinals have become regular visitors to Kansas City thanks to interleague play, but rarely do they get cheered by Royals fans. The exception was Carlos Beltran on Monday night. The former Royal given a warm welcome as he was introduced for the Home Run Derby. Beltran, a 7-time All-Star, was back in Kansas City where his career began. He hit 7 homers in the first round of the derby to advance. Beltran hit 5 more in the next round but the combined 12 wasn’t enough to reach the finals.
Detroit’s Prince Fielder outslugged Toronto’s Jose Bautista 12-7 to win the Derby title for the second time in his career. Fielder also won the slugging contest in 2009 when it was held at Busch Stadium in St.Louis. MLB’s 83rd All-Star Game can be seen on FOX-2 with coverage beginning at 6:30pm Tuesday night.
