TROY, IL (KTVI) - Nasty storms rolled through the St. Louis area as the triple digit heat ended.  Despite the break in extreme temperatures, there has been another heat death in the St. Louis area. This time in Illinois.

The Madison County coroner is reporting the death of an elderly woman from Troy because of the heat. The body of Dorothy Scott, 88, was found by family members at her home Sunday.

They had gone to check on her after finding a message on an answering machine saying she was not feeling well. The air conditioner in her residence was working, but the thermostat had accidentally been switched to "heat" instead of "cool," making the air conditioner turn off. The indoor temperature rose to 90 degrees without any cooling.
