Adam Wainwright pitched and hit the Cardinals past the Dodgers 8-2 on Tuesday night at Busch Stadium. Wainwright pitched into the eighth inning allowing just two runs while striking out seven Dodgers hitters. The Wainwright used his bat to rally the Cards from a 2-0 deficit. Wainwright doubled home a run in the fifth inning to cut the lead to 2-1. Wainwright then walked with the bases loaded against Dodgers ace pitcher Clayton Kershaw to give the Cardinals a 4-2 lead.
The Cardinals would score six times in the sixth inning to build an 8-2 lead. Rafael Furcal added two hits and three RBI to the Redbirds offensive attack. Allen Craig had a two run double to close out the scoring. Wainwright got the win to improve his season record to 8-10.
The only downer of the game was Lance Berkman getting hit by a Kershaw pitch in the third inning in the right knee. That’s the same knee Berkman just had operated on. Berkman left the game in extreme pain. He was diagnosed with a bruised right knee.
The Reds beat the Astros 4-2 on Tuesday night, so the Cardinals stay six games behind the NL Central leaders.
