BEIJING, CHINA (RT) – Beicheying Village in Beijing’s Fangshan District recorded 46 centimeters (18 inches) of rain on Saturday as the capital experienced its heaviest downpour in six decades. At least 37 people died in Beijing and it’s not yet clear how many of the dead perished in the hard-hit Fangshan province. But in the wake of the flooding, there has been intense scrutiny over its causes and whether or not officials did enough to minimize its impact. State media reported Wednesday that Beijing’s mayor and a vice mayor have resigned.
