One Dead, One Injured After Train Hits ATV

SOUTH ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MO( KTVI) – One person is dead and another injured after an ATV was struck by an Amtrak train Saturday night just after 8:00pm. The  accident happened south of the Jefferson Barracks Bridge just off Koch Road in Mehlville, MO.

Police say a 32 year old man was driving the ATV on the railroad tracks carrying a 28 year old female passenger when the two were struck. The woman, identified as Patricia Dempsey, was rushed to St. Anthony’s Hospital where she was pronounced dead. The driver was taken to a different hospital. His injuries are not considered life threatening.

Both of the ATV riders are from South County. The incident remains under investigation.
