WEBSTER GROVES, MO (KTVI) - Drivers in Webster Groves are in for some headaches as one of the community’s main entrance ramps onto Interstate 44 will be closed for the next six weeks.  The closure comes because of a retaining wall that is on the verge of collapse.

MoDOT officials are closing the entrance to westbound I-44 at Elm beginning at 9am Monday.  At the end of the ramp, there is a wall that runs up to Big Bend Road, running above the highway.  That retaining wall is visibly bowing, causing concern that it could collapse.

The wall will be dismantled and rebuilt by MoDOT crews over the next six weeks or so.  Officials say they hope to have the work finished sooner, but they’re giving themselves six weeks for the targeted deadline.

In the interim, drivers will need to take Big Bend to Laclede Station Rd. and follow the signs to the Westbound 44 entrance off Murdoch, or go west on Big Bend to the Watson Road access.

The eastbound ramp onto I-44 will not be affected.
