Officer Shoots Suspect In Shoulder In South St. Louis

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – A 21 year-old suspect has been shot in the shoulder following a struggle with police in South St. Louis.  Police were called to a burglary in the 3900 block of South Compton.  When they arrived they found the 21 year old suspect in the vacant home. 

St. Louis police say that when they approached the suspect he jumped through a first story window and took off on foot.  Police chased the suspect through the streets. A 28 year old officer tackled the suspect. According to police the suspect reached for the officer’s gun.  That is when the officer shot the suspect.

The suspect’s injuries are non life threatening.  He also has minor injures from jumping out of the window in the vacant home.

A witness disputes the police’s version of events.  He says that the shooting was not justified.

This is the 14th officer involved shooting this year.  During the last decade there has not been more than 15 shootings in a single year.
