ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – If you’re going to be driving downtown this weekend, get ready for detours and possible delays. MoDOT is shut down all westbound lanes and ramps of Interstate 64/40 in the downtown area late Friday morning. The closure will last through early Monday.
The westbound shutdown begins at the I-44/55 ramp on the Poplar Street Bridge and continues until 21st Street, the stretch of westbound I-64 that is on the double deck structure downtown.
Crews have to completely close the westbound lanes along that stretch so they can continue work to remove and replace the driving surface.
Eastbound drivers will also be impacted. Up to two eastbound lanes in the area will also be closed for safety reasons during the work.
To get around the closure, MoDOT recommends you take I-44 West to Jefferson and then take Jefferson back to Highway 40. Downtown drivers will be able to get back onto 40 West at Pine Street, Jefferson, or the Market/Compton interchange.
The right westbound lane could remain closed beyond the Monday 5:30am deadline. This is the fourth of seven westbound I-64 closures projected for the needed repair work.
