First Lawsuit Filed In I-55 Megabus Crash

CHICAGO, IL (KTVI) – A woman on board a Megabus that crashed into a concrete pillar on Interstate 55 two weeks ago has filed a lawsuit.  Jamie Schultz says she suffered severe emotional distress  and trauma because after the passenger in front of her was killed in the crash.

The lawsuit was filed against bus owner Coach Leasing, Inc and claims the bus driver, Preston Taylor, was driving too fast for conditions.  The suit also claims Megabus did not properly train its employees or properly maintain the bus.

Schultz, who is from Chicago, is seeking $50,000 for her injuries.

Schultz was apparently sitting behind Aditi R. Avhad, 25, of India, who was killed in the accident. The double-decker Megabus was heading from Chicago to St. Louis on August 2 when the bus blew a tire and crashed into a concrete pillar on I-55 near Litchfield, Il.   As many as 25 people were hospitalized because of the accident.
