10-Hour Standoff Ends Peacefully in Pontoon Beach, IL
PONTOON BEACH, IL (KTVI) – Shots fired inside a home leads to evacuations and a nearly nine hour at a house near Pontoon Beach. It all started about 7:30pm Thursday night when police say a Brandon J. Caple, 28, got into a domestic dispute at a home on Shirlwin Drive with his relatives. Those relatives were identified by neighbors as his mother and step father. Apparently, they all lived in the house together.
The confrontation reportedly was over a cell phone and did become physical. The situation escalated when police say Caple got a gun and started shooting in the home.
The man wasn`t shooting at his relatives but instead was just randomly firing. The relatives were able to get out and called police. When authorities responded, they heard more shots and that`s when the SWAT team was called in.
Authorities had some communication with the Caple but then that stopped. Eventually, they sent a robot into the home and found him passed out. He was then taken into custody without incident.
The suspect was taken to a hospital to be checked out. But we`re told he is expected to be okay and there were no injuries.
Caple was charged Friday afternoon with Aggravated Battery, (Class 3 felony), Aggravated Assault with Firearm, (Class 4 felony), Reckless Discharge of a Firearm, (Class 4 felony), and Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, (Class 4 felony). An arrest warrant was issued with bail set at $50,000. Caple remains hospitalized and will taken to jail after he is released pending the posting of that bail.
