Akin Defends Decision to Stay In Race to National Media
ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – Missouri senatorial candidate Todd Akin was back in St. Louis Wednesday. Despite pressure from the GOP, he decided to stay in the race against incumbent Claire McCaskill.
It’s a controversy that began with Akin’s comments on rape and pregnancy made on the Jaco Report Sunday. Congressman Akin spent Wednesday morning at KETC Channel 9′s studio being interviewed by major networks.
When Akin left the studios around 6:15 a.m. , he did not speak with FOX 2. But he did tell the national media that he should not have used the word, ‘legitimate.’
Despite calls from fellow Republicans for him to withdraw, the deadline for him to drop out passed on Tuesday. In a radio show Tuesday, Akin said he’s staying in the race because “there are people who feel they aren’t represented by the major political parties.”
