GOP leaders trying to force him to drop out for a run for Senate because of a comment said during an interview on FOX 2. The U.S. Senate candidate was asked whether abortion should be allowed in the case of rape.
Tod Akin said, “It seems to be, first of all, from what I understand from doctors, it’s really rare. If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut the whole thing down.”
Congressman Todd Akin's comments on the Tony Perkins radio show caught some by surprise.
Rep. Todd Akin said, "At the heart of liberalism, really is the hatred of God, and belief that the government should replace God. So they have had a long history of not being favorable towards many of the things that have been such a blessing to our country."
Todd Akin is against the trillions of dollars the government spent on the TARP bail-outs. These are his comments about the history of stimulus programs:
"We have this category of stuff we call stimulus; 1.2 trillion dollars. We take money that we don't have and spend it all over the place as though that is going to somehow help the economy. It just does not work. It just does not work are also the words of Henry Morgenthau in 1937 when FDR tried the same thing and destroyed the economy."
After Todd Akin won the Missouri Primary election he commented about scaling back the federally funded school lunch program.
According to Todd Akin, "A lot of the time when the federal government gets involved in a program it becomes more and more costly and less and less efficient more and more red tape. I'm a big believer in local control of education and things that don't have to be done by the federal government. I have not studied school lunches extensively. But, it does suggest that it is something that the state could get involved in."
On April 21 Congressman Todd Akin spoke about the federal student loan program during a forum hosted by the College Republicans at the University of Missouri. He was asked if he would support a lower rate for student loans.
Todd Akin aid, "America has the equivalent of a stage three cancer of socialism because the federal government is tampering in all kinds of stuff it has no business tampering in." said Akin.
