MARYLAND HEIGHTS, MO (KTVI)– Patients at the Ranken Jordan Pediatric Specialty Hospital got a chance to show off their art skills today.
The kids helped paint a mural brought in by nationally known landscape painter and Kirkwood native Bryan Haynes.
Some of the kids had very special talents including one who painted with her toes.
The President and CEO of Ranken Jordan, Lauri Tanner, says ‘art therapy’ as it`s known is important in the kids recoveries.
“The big plus for art therapy for kids is that they can kind of get lost in the art and then they can also sit back and look and see what they did…that they were successful and it`s an immediate gratification,” said Tanner.
We asked Haynes what he hopes the kids take away from the activity.
Haynes told us, “Just a memory of bright color at minimum. But at most like I say if they can go by and say I made a piece of art together with all the other kids it`d be great.”
The event was put on by the Kodner Gallery.
They sponsor the Kodner Gallery Art Therapy Program at Ranken Jordan.
