Hazelwood Announces Replacement for Fired Superintendent

HAZELWOOD, MO (KTVI) – The Hazelwood School District announced the replacements for a superintendent fired last week.  He had only led the district for two years, but officials ended August by ending employment for Dr. Steve Price.

The district hired him as superintendent in 2010.  Price`s former second in command, Dr. Grayling Tobias, will move to the top spot as interim superintendent.  Administrator Dr. Ingrid Clark-Jackson will move into the number two spot.

If district officials made a mistake in hiring Price, they made an expensive misstep.  According to the Florissant Patch, Dr. Price had a three-year contract with the Hazelwood School District for $235,000 a year.  He was two years into his contract.  Officials announced the promotions of Tobias and Clark-Jackson on their website, but they completely left out any mention of Price.

There is no word as to why Price was fired.  But, Florissant Patch reported the district started the 2011-2012 school year with a $2.9-million operating budget deficit and the schools barely held on to state accreditation this year.
