ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)-- Roosevelt is the first high school in the St. Louis area with a full service health clinic for students.

It's a unique idea officials say is designed to give students access to health care and cut down on time missed from school because of health issues.

Aigner Channel gave me a tour of the new health clinic at Roosevelt High School, which provides physicals and basic medical care to students.

Students must have consent forms signed by their parents or guardians on file before they can be examined by a nurse practitioner.  Antonio Gambrell saw her recently.

Antonio is a running back on the football team. Coach DeAndre Campbell says about 80-percent of his players, have gotten physicals, required for play, at school`s clinic.

The clinic, run by Mercy Health Systems, is funded through a partnership between the school district, Mercy, and aviation giant -- Boeing.

The idea is to give students access to health care and keep them in class.

The health clinic is open five days a week. It is free of charge to students, teachers, too.
