GRANITE CITY, IL (KTVI)– Granite City Police are calling the death of a 21-month-old child, ‘suspicious.’
Major Jeff Connor did not want to release any details of his department`s investigation until an autopsy was completed. He said an autopsy on the child is scheduled for 9am on Tuesday.
‘We`re working hand in hand with the coroner`s office and right now we`re not really saying anything,’ said Connor.
He did say someone from inside the home called 911 on Monday afternoon around 1pm and that`s when police responded.
The child was rushed to a hospital but did not survive.
Police spent hours removing evidence from inside the home and then returned late Monday night to knock on doors in an effort to interview potential witnesses.
One neighbor said the child was loving and playful. Another neighbor said the boyfriend of the child`s mother left with police.
‘We`re speaking with friends, family, associates, anybody to get to the bottom of what happened to the child,’ said Connor.
