ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – “Know Before You Go”. If you’re heading downtown this weekend, particularly from the Metro East, get ready for delays and detours. Westbound Interstate 64/40 will be completely shut down and only one lane eastbound will be open.
The shutdown will end at Highway 40 and Jefferson. These closures are part of MoDOT’s ongoing work on the double-decker structure of Highway 40. But there is a real potential for traffic trouble especially for events like the Rams game and the Edward Jones Dome on Sunday.
Starting at 10 a.m. Friday, MoDOT will shut down all westbound lanes of I-64 from the Poplar Street Bridge to 21st Street. That means drivers coming from the Metro East should either allot extra time or take a different bridge into downtown.
Only one eastbound lane will be open along the same stretch this weekend so that could slow down traffic coming into downtown from the west.
The Broadway, 10th Street, and 14th Street entrance ramps will also be closed this weekend. All of the westbound I-64 lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday.
Another weekend closure of I-64 is set for next weekend and two closures of 40 eastbound in this area are set for next month.
