The Cardinals completed a three game sweep of the Houston Astros on Thursday afternoon with a 5-4 win. Allen Craig’s three run 1st inning home run and Carlos Beltran’s two run pinch-hit double in the 6th inning accounted for the Cardinals runs.

Jaime Garcia pitched six innings, allowing three runs, but it was good enough to pick up his 5th win of the season. Fernando Salas got the Cards out of a bases loaded, one out jam with two strikeouts. Jason Motte then pitched the 9th inning to collect his 38th save of the year.

The Dodgers lost their game on Thursday so the Cardinals now hold a three game lead over Los Angeles. The Brewers are now the closest team to the Cards in the NL Wild Card race. They trail by two and a half games.
