More Highway Lane Closures Set For This Weekend
ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – Several MoDOT road closures could make driving downtown difficult this weekend. The biggest issue for drivers will be westbound Interstate 64/40 in the downtown area. It will again be completely closed.
The Westbound 64 closure starts Friday at 6:00pm. The lanes are scheduled to reopen by 3:00am Monday.
There have been many complete closures of westbound I-64 downtown so crews can replace the driving surface on the double-deck structure. That work is the reason for this weekend’s total shutdown as well.
Several ramps in this area will also be closed in conjunction with the highway closure.
The I-64/40 shutdown isn’t the only challenge drivers will be contending with. The depressed section of I-70 east and westbound will be completely shut down from 8:00pm Friday until possibly 9:00am Saturday for additional work.
Traffic will be re-routed onto Memorial Drive.
The reversible lanes on I-70 downtown will be shut down at 7:00pm Friday until 5:00am. Monday while crews perform bridge painting.
The reversible lanes will also be closed from 9:00am until 3:00pm on weekdays.
There were some delays in the evening rush going eastbound on the Poplar Thursday night when some steel construction plates came loose. But MoDOT says that issue should be fixed and okay for Friday morning’s drive.
MoDOT’s website says this weekend should be the last complete shutdown for westbound I-64 downtown.
There are two eastbound I-64 closures downtown set for October as part of the same project.
The work on the double-deck structure should be finished by November.
There is also a potential traffic delay in the Metro East. Friday from 6:00am until 5:00pm there will be a lane restriction on southbound Route 3 at I-270 while crews take care of some work.
This delay will also take place on Monday, weather permitting.
