KIRKWOOD, MO (KTVI)– Akin critics and McCaskill supporters stood outside a Kirkwood restaurant where the congressman was holding his political fundraiser during the Monday noon hour.
Many of the demonstrators wore bright pink to show their support for women’s rights. Kirkwood Democratic party committeewoman Jean Loemker said, ” Todd akin does not represent me or my values he is so far to the extreme that it upsets me.”
Susan Cunningham of Pacific carried a protest sign. She said she was tired of politicians telling women what “we can do with our bodies.” ” I’ve never been a women’s libber before but I am now thanks to Todd Akin,” she added.
David Mienel of St. Louis City said he appreciated the benefits for seniors in the new Affordable Health Care Act and wondered who would help him cover those costs if it is repealed under a Republican administration.
Akin supporters who rallied at the train station were equally critical of Sen. McCaskill. They complained she voted for Obamacare (the Affordable Health Care Act) despite the fact 71 percent of Missourians voted against it.
