EAST ST. LOUIS, IL (KTVI)- She won Olympic glory in London and today East St. Louis native dawn Harper was honored in her hometown with a parade. Harper won a silver medal in the 100 meter hurdles at the London Olympics this year. She also won gold in Beijing in 2008.
Harper displayed both medals as she rode down State Street in the parade and waived to the crowd.
Harper says she`s touched by the outpouring of support.
“It means the world to me, you know, to know that East St. Louis backed me 100 percent. I really went out there to represent them and the USA. So to know that I brought home the silver for them and they`re very proud of me, it means the world, it really does,” said Harper.
She added, “East St. Louis needs a bright light to be shined on them and I felt like I could be that. I`m asked about east St. Louis a lot and I always want to shine a positive light because I feel like there are great people that come from the city of champions, East St. Louis.”
Harper lives in Los Angeles now. She plans to compete in the 2016 games in Rio de Janeiro.
