Man Arrested, Charged In Fatal Hit And Run
PAGEDALE, MO (KTVI) – Missouri Highway Patrol troopers arrested a suspect Sunday afternoon for the Friday night fatal hit and run accident in Pagedale. A 4-year-old boy was killed and his 10-year-old brother critically injured as they were crossing the 7300 block of St. Charles Rock Road about 7:30 pm.
Cpl. Sam Bucheit said a surveillance photo of a white truck proved to be the clue that helped crack the case. A tip from the public led officers to the suspect vehicle in north St. Louis City. Troopers were then able to find the man they believe was driving the truck Friday, Ricky Weeden, 54, of St. Louis City.
Sunday afternoon they brought Weeden back to the accident scene and then took him to the St. Louis County Jail in Clayton where he was held overnight pending the issuing of warrants by the St. Louis County Prosecutor’s office.
A memorial of stuffed toys and messages stands at the accident scene in memory of the victim Traye-shon Williams. He would have turned five on December 4.
Family friend Jerome Tate said Sunday the older brother, Jayshard Conner, had been moved from intensive care and was talking again.
“The family would like everyone to keep praying and we thank you for your prayers. God has answered them.”
Tate also is asking drivers on St. Charles Rock Road to slow down.
Weeden has been charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident, a felony Bond was set at $50,000 cash only. Police said he has a criminal record, including D.U.I.’s. Authorities are looking into the possibility that Weeden may have been trying to destroy evidence. They said he had removed parts to the front of his truck.
