ST. LOUIS, MO.  (KTVI) – The speed limit on part of a busy St. Louis road is a little slower after it was permanently reduced Tuesday.

It`s a move many hope will make Forest Park Parkway safer. The speed limit lowered from 35 to 30 miles per hour on a stretch of the road from Kingshighway to Grand.

Part of that area is right by Barnes Jewish Hospital in the Central West End where there are lots of pedestrians.

People we talked with think it`s a good idea.

City Streets Director Todd Waelterman says his crews studied the speed limit reduction for some time after hearing safety concerns. He thinks the move can increase safety

Signs are up warning drivers about the new speed limit.

We`re told crews will study traffic patterns for the next couple of weeks before any tickets are given out for speeding.
