ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)--It's been a long and difficult journey for the mother of Christian Ferguson. The severely disabled child was 9 when he went missing in 2003. His whereabouts are still not known. On Tuesday his mother marked the 19th birthday of her son with a memorial and celebration.
Friends and family gathered inside a restaurant in the Grove to remember Christian and to insist that his case be solved.
"I feel like I should know where he is, what happened to him and I don`t have closure," said Theda Wilson, Christian`s mother.
A cloud of suspicion was cast on Christian`s father immediately after his son's disappearance. The father made a phone call from a pay phone and told police his SUV was stolen with Christian inside.
The SUV was recovered a few miles away with no sign of Christian.
Wilson fought for charges to be filed in the case but they never were and Christian was never found.
"We've done all that we know to do," said Wilson.
She held hands with others who joined her on Tuesday for prayer and song.
Shelia Price joined Wilson in calling for closure. "It's hard for her to stay strong and people just don`t know what she's going through."
Price was the parent of a missing child who was eventually found. Her son had been murdered.
"At least I had some closure," said Price. "Somebody knows something and they`re just not telling it."
Price called on anyone with information on the case to step forward.
