Cardinals Advance To NLCS, Beat Nationals 9-7
WASHINGTON, DC (KTVI) – In an amazing come from behind victory, the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Washington Nationals 9-7 in Game 5 of the National League Division Series. The win propels the Cardinals into the National League Championship Series for the second year in a row.
The Washington Nationals came out swinging and quickly went ahead 6-0 as Adam Wainwright struggled. Slowly but surely, the defending World Series champion Cardinals erased the Nats lead. In the 9th inning, down to their last strike, the team got a tying two-out, two-run single from Daniel Descalso. Then it was a go-ahead two-run single from Pete Kozma.
It was the largest comeback ever in a winner-take-all postseason game, according to STATS LLC.
The first game of the NLCS will be in San Francisco, Sunday, October 14th at 7:15 St. Louis time. All games of the NLCS will be shown on FOX 2.
