Man Charged After Woman’s Body Found In South St. Louis Trash Can
ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – A man has been charged after a woman`s body was found Friday morning stuffed into a trash can in the alley behind the 3500 block of California in South St. Louis.
Keith Miller, 34, was charged with 1st Degree Murder in the death of 26-year-old Ashley Moorhead.
The resident who made the discovery did not want to be identified but said after his dogs began barking he went to the alley and found a man trying to take his trash can.
The resident chased the guy off, but a few moments later he was back, so the resident confronted him again. This time the man asked if he could borrow the trash can for a few minutes. When the resident said no and police were called, the man took off running and that`s when the resident noticed the body stuffed inside the can.
The victim was identified as Ashley Moorhead, from the 3200 block of Texas. An autopsy determined the cause of death to be strangulation.
News of the gruesome discovery spread quickly throughout the Gravois Park neighborhood.
‘It`s things happening back to back and it is not safe for the kids,’ said Kadijah McFadden, 19, who lives just a few blocks from the scene. ‘My little sisters don`t even come outside no more because there is so much going on.’
Tonya Spearse echoed those sentiments.
“I have a 34 year-old-daughter and she comes up and down this way all the time and I pray for her all the time.”
