(KTVI) - For those working at Busch Stadium Wednesday and for those skipping work Wednesday, getting ready for Game 3 of the National League Championship Series was serious business.

'It`s our job to make it look good,' said Justin Hatcher.  'So, It`s our life almost.'

The Busch Stadium grounds crew supervisor and his landscapers work hard - and early - laying all kinds of equipment and chemicals on the diamond.

'It`s conditioner,' he explained while other shoveled a beige gravel-like powder around home plate.  'It`s what we spread on an everyday basis.  It`s like a drying agent.  If it gets wet it also helps to hold moisture on the infield.'

While grounds crew work on the field and the broadcast crew from FOX Sports work on cameras, one fan works on getting tickets for today`s game.

'I`ve got a very flexible job,' Glen Campbell pointed out.  'I`ve been to every home game.  I`ve been to every playoff game - road and home -- since `04'

Another die-hard just knew the Cards were going to take Game 3 from the San Francisco Giants.  So, she worked on getting tickets to the World Series.

'I skipped school to come do this. I have to make it in time for school for...' Melissa Dalton stopped to think about her schedule.  'I have a test during 3rd period.  It`s okay.  It will be good.  It`s worth it.'

The grounds crew, and the broadcast crew may have to work, but they agree.

'We don`t get many days off,' Hatcher said.  'Especially during the playoffs, but this is what we work for.  It`s all worth it in the end, hopefully.'

Metro Transit scheduled extra trains to help fans get Downtown in time for the game.  Operators planned to run a later schedule to get fans home after the game.
