BLAND, MO (KTVI) – More than a dozen buildings were damaged from straight line winds in Bland, Missouri and the town’s Post Office was destroyed.
Powerful winds lifted part of the roof off the post office and blew in the glass front.
One worker was inside when the windows started to rattle just after 4pm on Wednesday.
“She couldn’t even tell me how long it took because it just started shaking and it just happened,” said Cindy Bolles, U.S. Postal Office Operations.
There was also damage to the Bland Fire Protection District firehouse which sits right behind the post office.
“I was actually in a half ton work van and it slid me across the road,” said Jeff Robinson, Bland Fire Protection District Chief.
Robinson said one homeowner suffered minor injuries from flying glass. “We’re relieved this was not worse than it was.”
Bland postal customers will need to go to Owensville for service until the future of the Bland post office is known.
