ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – FOX 2′s Bonita Cornute and Charles Jaco will moderate the three public forums to to search for new St. Louis Police Chief. One in the central corridor, one on the South side and one on the North side.
13 candidates who hold the rank of captain or above have applied to be the new chief. They will all will go through a battery of essay and professional tests prepared in conjunction with the criminology department at the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
The candidates will all be interviewed by the five-member board of police commissioners. The questions the board asks will largely be guided by the feedback at these public forums. A final decision on a new chief, they hope, will be made before Christmas. Current police chief Dan Isom retires January 1st to join the criminology faculty at UMSL.
“It’s a very important time for us to make sure we do this right. It’s also important for us to be able to engage the community in the process. We looked at some of the ways things were handled in the past, and I think they had a great process. The only piece that the board kind of felt was missing there was making the communhity be a little more engaged in what we do as we look for our chief going forward.” said Col. Richard Gray.
