Dog Hailed As Hero In Apartment Fire
CHESTERFIELD, MO (KTVI)- An apartment building fire has left some Chesterfield residents looking for a place to stay. The fire started in a 35 unit building at the Chesterfield Place Apartments around 6:30am Sunday. Those are located at the intersection of Olive Blvd. and Rialto Dr.
According to Monarch Fire Department Asst. Chief John Borgmann, smoke quickly filled the building and the fire went to three alarms. When crews arrived, residents were seen crawling out of the building along the ground to escape the heavy smoke. Fire crews had to help several residents escape from upstairs units using ladders. Smoke alarms in the building were sounding.
Several people were evaluated for smoke inhalation, but no one was seriously injured. Apartment management and the Red Cross are on scene assisting residents with their needs.
More than 75 firefighters from the Monarch, Pattonville, Creve Coeur, West County and Metro West Fire Departments battled the fire. One firefighter twisted a knee in his efforts.
