Artist Don Wiegand and the Spirit of Hope Award
(KTVI) - A St. Louis man who has given his time and money to help honor members of the military now needs the public’s help so he can continue his work.
Don Weigand is a sculptor who has created and handed out spirit of hope bronze awards for nearly a decade.
They honor military members and others who exhibit the USO spirit of the late comedian Bob Hope.
Wiegand used his own money to finance his nonprofit foundation. But his property in Chesterfield is in foreclosure and is set to be auctioned December 5th.
He is working with the city of Chesterfield to try to save his property and is also getting public donations.
By the way one of this year’s Spirit of Hope award recipients is actor Gary Sinise whose lt. Dan band has entertained troops around the globe and helped raise money for injured soldiers including St. Louis’ Todd Nicely who lost both his arms and legs while serving in Afghanistan.
Wiegand has a December 5th deadline before the property is to be auctioned off. He urges everyone who has ever visited the studio, and appreciates everything it means to West County, to please donate, speak-up, and write letters. Send to: The Wiegand Foundation, One Wiegand Drive, Chesterfield, MO, 63005.
