Cardinals Put “St. Louis” On Alternate Home Jerseys
ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – The St. Louis Cardinals are making a wardrobe change but only on Saturdays. The Cardinals say players will wear the new 2013 alternate home jersey with matching pants. The change is the first major update to the Cardinals uniform since 1998.
The new jersey features “St. Louis” on the front of the jersey instead of “Cardinals”. It’s the first time since 1932 the words “St. Louis” have appeared on a Cardinals jersey.
The new authentic jerseys are available at the Cardinals.com Shop and at the Cardinals’ team store at Busch Stadium.. The store will be the exclusive seller until after Thanksgiving.
Cardinal Nation is built on more than a century of tradition and the birds on the bat are almost as big a part of that tradition as the games played on the field. So when the Cardinals decide to make this change, they did it very carefully and knowing full well Cardinals fans would have some strong opinions.
The new uniform is a tip of the cap to the team’s rich history. And while it harkens back to the days of Dizzy Dean and Stan “The Man” Musial, making any change to what is one of the most iconic logos in all of sports history is risky business.
Redbird fans calling into The Martin Kilkoyne show on the Big 550-KTRS had mixed feelings about the changes. But there was no disagreement among fans enjoying lunch at this Buffalo Wild Wings in Creve Coeur. They all agreed they like the new look.
And if you think one of these new uniforms might make the perfect holiday gift, the Team Store at Busch Stadium is the only place to get them for now.
