(KTVI) - It's Cyber Monday, and Americans are expected to spend $1.5 billion online today, as retailers ramp up deals to get shoppers to click on their websites.  That's up from $1.25 billion on Cyber Monday last year.

As always, some folks will be doing their internet shopping from work, but with the growth in smartphones and tablets, a lot of people will not have to rely on their work computers to bargain hunt.

Online shoppers should always be aware that scammers are also looking to cash in. Make sure when you're shopping online that you use credible sites that you're used to dealing with.

Also, make sure there are no misspellings in your site's URL. Some scammers set up phony site that look just like real ones to get their victim's money. Also, make sure site payment windows are secure with an "https".

As for Thanksgiving weekend total sales, the National Retail Federation says U.S. shoppers hit stores and websites at record numbers over the four-day weekend, with 247 million shoppers making purchases.

That's up more than nine percent from last year.
