(KTVI)-Saint Louis University Head Basketball Coach Rick Majerus died of heart failure Saturday afternoon in a Los Angeles, CA hospital. He was 64. Majerus took a leave of absence this season as Billikens coach to get treatment for a serious heart condition. He battled heart ailments for years, including seven bypass operations.
Majerus coached 25 years in college basketball with the following universities: Marquette, Ball State, Utah and Saint Louis. Majerus was the Billikens coach from 2007-2012. He had a career record of 517-216, including a 95-69 mark with Saint Louis. Majerus led the Billikens to an NCAA berth and into the 3rd round of the tournament, before finally losing to Michigan State this past basketball season.
In Majerus’ 25 years of coaching, he had only one losing season.
