CHESTERFIELD, MO (KTVI)– The battle continues to brew between two brand new outlet malls under construction in the Chesterfield Valley. The two projects are only a few miles apart. Workers at Taubman Prestige Outlets are scrambling to get the job done.
The place is set to open August 2, 2013 with 80 stores. Officials say 70 percent of the outlets have commitments from big name retailers. When it’s complete there will be ½ mile of shopping. Nico Schultz is Taubman’s director of development. He said, “We believe our site is the best site in the market and our site will survive and our site will be the best in the long run.”
Just a few miles west workers are busy at the new St. Louis Premium Outlets. Although construction does not appear to be as advanced at this site officials plan to open this place just 20 days after their competitor. People at Premium Outlets said they have over 80 percent of the project committed also with big name stores.
Shoppers like Tasha Schriewer are thrilled two outlet malls will soon open in Chesterfield, “Definitely excited because you know less time going to the lake to shop.”
The two malls have overlap, each claims to have some of the same stores moving in. Schultz said, “Our leasing group is telling us the commitments they have are ones they can stand behind.”
He said his mall has better access to the highway. The shoppers will decide if two miles that are so close to each other can be successful. Not only are the two malls competing against each other, the huge Chesterfield Commons is nearby and so is Chesterfield Mall.
