BARTELSO, IL (KTVI) - Hundreds of mourners and firefighters from over a dozen different departments said goodbye on Thursday to Tim Jansen.  He was a small town volunteer firefighter who died in the line of duty on Sunday.

Everybody in this farm town of 600 about 40 miles East of St. Louis knew Tim Jansen. As the long procession of mourners marched down this highway the silence was therir loudest tribute.
They marched slowly under the gray prairie sky. There were people who had known Tim Jansen all their lives. There were people from miles away who only shared with him the hazards of firefighting.

Tim Jansen was one of six kids who grew up in this Clinton County town. He married there, had two kids there and died there.

The accident happened Sunday night in rough terrain at a house fire. Somehow…one of his own firetrucks from the Santa Fe Fire protection district backed over Jansen; crushing him.

Tim Jansen leaves behind a wife and two daughters. One in the eighth grade and one in the first grade.
