Billikens Hold Memorial Service For Majerus

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - The St. Louis University community bid a sad farewell to Billiken basketball coach Rick Majerus Friday afternoon.  He died Saturday while awaiting a heart transplant.

During a campus memorial service, the coach was remembered as a man whose influence extended well beyond the court.

St. Louis University students, faculty and alumni gathered to recognize an extraordinary coach who touched thousands of lives in his five years at this University.  Rick majerus died at age 64 Saturday as he fought heart disease.   Many here say his legacy will live on.

During a memorial service athletes recalled his energy, his sharp mind and his love of a good meal.  They praised majerus for helping them become better men and for caring about them.

A former player, Paul Echerle, now in medical school at St. Louis University spoke for many of them.
