ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – Work on the New Mississippi River Bridge means lane closures on Interstate 70 starting Friday morning. Traffic was moving smoothly very early on Friday but that could change as the morning progresses. ‘
There is a new bridge being built over I-70 which will eventually connect the new Mississippi River Bridge to Cass Avenue in the downtown area. Friday night, crew will be placing big steel girders over the interstate as park of the work. But the first closures start at 9 a.m. Crews will close the express lanes which could impact the evening commute.
MoDOT says for some 15 minute time periods during the evening and overnight hours, all lanes of Interstate 70 will be shut down as crews swing the girders over the highway. Also at 7 p.m., crews will close the Biddle Street ramp for the work.
All of the lanes expect for the express lanes are slated to reopen by 10 a.m. Saturday. The express lanes will reopen by noon on Sunday.
